Drinking milk enhances brain health
Since we are young we were taught that drinking milk is very important to keep bones strong and healthy, and to provide our body proteins and vitamins needed for vital functions. Now, he has discovered a new benefit of consumption of dairy products, and has to do with our brain health. Do you suspect?
According to research conducted at the University of Maine in the United States, and published in the International Dairy Journal, drinking only a glass of milk a day strengthens the power of our brain. And overall consumption of dairy products like yogurt, cheese and even ice cream, improves memory and helps prevent mental illness.
Research
The study was to analyze the performance of a group of 972 people, including men and women from 23 to 98 years-eight rigorous tests that measured their learning ability, concentration and memory. After that, should indicate how often they consumed dairy products, particularly if consumed milk at breakfast or snack.
Results
The researchers noted that those individuals who reported consuming dairy products five to six times a week were much better results on memory tests than those who claimed not to consume these products, or consumed infrequently.
In other words, people who rarely drink milk or eat its derivatives were five times more likely to fail in the tests compared with those who consume dairy products within two to four times a week.
Conclusions
With these results on the table, experts say that dairy products provide us with certain nutrients that stimulate memory, such as magnesium. These products in turn prevent heart disease and hypertension, which at the same time causes the brain to function properly.
However, it should be clear that low-fat milk, for if not increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.
"These new and recent studies showing health benefits of our brain are one more reason to start drinking low fat milk," the researchers said.
